OUR STORY

My dad and I would travel everywhere for golf tournaments. I was obsessed with figuring out how to improve at the game as quickly as possible. One of my favorite golf drills was using a ruler on the ground to practice starting my ball on line. It was easy to set up and gave instant feedback, but I noticed several problems with it. The ruler was usually too flimsy, it could easily be kicked off line if hit with the putter, and it was hard to keep level because it lacked a sturdy base.

I figured, why not turn it into a thicker ruler? Then I thought about attaching a putting plate to it that could help work on other aspects of putting simultaneously. I added tee holes for a gate drill and designed slits that could double as a stencil for alignment markers. Once the plate idea and name came together, I created a logo that matched the plate's design. In the process, I realized that the circular design was perfect for ensuring your eyes were positioned directly over the ball.

We spent around three years working on the product, starting from the first drawing after coming up with the idea on the practice green to creating the final product. During that time, we refined the plate, making countless changes and improvements along the way. We adjusted the tee hole locations and created longer, adjustable holes to accommodate different putters. We made the hole where the ball rests smaller so it wouldn't bounce on contact. We resized the white logo on the plate to better match the golf ball. We repositioned the magnets to prevent the plate from shifting and added holes for tees to secure the plate, ensuring it stayed in place.

After numerous prototypes and refinements, we finally reached the final product: "The Ruler."
